Background

Sawyers Gully Road, Sawyers Gully is a main link road that connects Old Maitland Road to Hunter Express Way via Hart Road roundabout. The continuous traffic increase and pavement deterioration with time has triggered rehabilitation of the road as a priority.

The existing road is a two-way sealed road, generally with unformed/unsealed shoulders and earth dish drains on each side. Council proposes to widen the existing road, upgrade the road intersections at Bathurst Street, Frame Drive, Lumby Lane, Hinds Lane and Bakers Lane and improve drainage system along the road.


Scope of Work

The rehabilitation road project will be undertaken in stages. Stage 1 of the project commences from the Old Maitland Road intersection to Frame Drive intersection. Scope of works include:

  • Widening of existing road and shoulders
  • Pavement rehabilitation
  • Upgrading drainage system
  • Guardrails installation
  • Signs and line marking

Sawyers Gully Road, Sawyers Gully is oriented in an approx. northwest - southeast direction and commences from Old Maitland Road and culminates at Hart Road roundabout, connecting three main roads; Hart Road, Gingers Lane and Government Road. The approx. length of Sawyers Gully Road is 4.4km.

Traffic Management

A Traffic Management Plan will be in place for the duration of the works and Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be displayed at various locations to inform the residents and road users.

Traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place for the duration of the works.
