Handy volunteers needed for Cessnock City Council’s Repair Café
Published on 07 February 2025
Cessnock City Council is on the lookout for handy volunteers to join its first Repair Café event of the year, on Saturday 1 March 10am – 12:30pm at Branxton Hall.
The Repair Café will provide a welcoming space to contribute to local sustainability efforts, learn new skills and breathe life back into cherished belongings.
Anyone with expertise in the following areas are encouraged to lend their skills as volunteers:
- Bicycle repairs
- Electrical repairs (qualified electricians and electrical engineers)
- Clock and watch repairs
- Leather goods and jewellery repairs
- Shoe and bag repairs
- Knife and tool sharpening
- General handyperson skills
- Sewing machine repairs and maintenance
- Crochet and knitting repairs
- Bookbinding
Cessnock City Mayor Dan Watton encouraged local handymen and handywomen to get involved in this important initiative.
"Our Repair Café provides an excellent platform for residents to come together, share their talents, and play an active role in supporting sustainability within our community," said Clr Watton.
"In a world where we often replace rather than repair, events like this allow us to extend the life of our items and reduce waste."
"Whether you're an experienced DIYer or someone just eager to help out, we would love to have you volunteer and be a part of this fantastic initiative!"
