Council seeks volunteers for next Repair Café
Published on 10 October 2024
Cessnock City Council will host its second Repair Café event of the year on Saturday 26 October 10:00am – 12:30pm at North Cessnock Community Hall, and is on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to join this community-driven event.
The Repair Café will provide a welcoming space for residents to connect, learn new skills, reduce waste by breathing new life into their cherished belongings, and contribute to local sustainability efforts.
Residents with expertise in the following areas are encouraged to lend their skills as volunteers:
- Bicycle repairs
- Electrical repairs (qualified electricians and electrical engineers)
- Clock and watch repairs
- Leather goods and jewellery repairs
- Shoe and bag repairs
- Knife and tool sharpening
- General handyperson skills
- Sewing machine repairs and maintenance
- Crochet and knitting repairs
- Bookbinding
Cessnock City Mayor Daniel Watton encouraged local handymen and handywomen to get involved in this important initiative.
"The Repair Café is a fantastic opportunity for residents to share their skills and knowledge, while actively participating in our community’s sustainability efforts," said Clr Watton.
"In our fast-paced world, repairing what we value – whether it’s an old bicycle or your favourite pair of jeans – helps us extend the life of our belongings and prevents them from entering landfill."
"No matter if you’re a seasoned DIY expert or just eager to lend a hand, we’d love to have you volunteer!"
