Celebrate Cessnock’s ‘Hidden Herstories’ on International Women’s Day
Published on 23 February 2024
This International Women’s Day, uncover the inspiring stories of Cessnock’s unsung heroines at the ‘Celebrating Cessnock’s Hidden Herstories’ event.
The event will take place at Cessnock City Library on Friday March 8 from 10am to 12pm and will shine a light on the remarkable women who have shaped the region’s character and enriched its history.
Often overlooked, these local women have made significant contributions to their communities, yet their achievements remain hidden. This year, hear the stories of May, Ethel and Elsie, three individuals whose bravery and resilience in the wake of the Bellbird Colliery Disaster serve as powerful testaments to the strength and impact of women in our region.
Library Coordinator Rose-marie Walters said this event is a unique opportunity to gain insights into the lives and legacies of extraordinary women.
“Join us this International Women’s Day to honour the strength of women who have left an incredible mark on our community,” said Ms Walters.
“You will be moved by their courage, inspired by their contributions and gain a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of Cessnock’s history.”
A gold cold donation is kindly requested to go towards supporting Jodie’s Place, a local organisation dedicated to empowering women and children experiencing domestic violence.
Bookings for this event are essential and can be made from the adults’ section of the ‘What’s On’ page https://www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/libraries/Whats-on or by calling Cessnock Library on 4993 4399.
