Better Bus Stops on the Horizon for Cessnock LGA

Cessnock City Council is set to continue its significant transformation of bus stops and shelters across the region, after successfully securing $88,000 in the latest round of the NSW Government’s Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme.

The grant funds will be used to update eleven existing bus stops and install two new shelters to meet new accessibility compliance requirements.

The funding will allow the installation of tactile ground indicators, improved kerbside access, better timetable boards and new seating.

Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal said the successful applications continued Council’s strong record of successfully securing grant funding through this and other NSW grant schemes. 

"Cessnock City Council has a strong record of securing grant funding so that it can deliver for our community, and the evidence is clear through the significant number of projects we have on the ground," said Clr Suvaal.

"This funding allows us to continue our program of upgrades to local bus stops, making them safer and more accessible for our community.

"I’m sure residents agree the blue bus shelters that have been popping up look fantastic too!"
