Community Recycling Centre
The Community Recycling Centre, which is located inside Cessnock Waste Management Centre, provides the community with a safe way to dispose of household problem waste, free of charge. Commercial problem waste is accepted but charged at $156/tonne. Large quantities should be pre-booked before arrival to avoid being refused if allowed quantities are already on site.
Due to a fire at Cleanaway’s processing facility in Sydney, Cessnock Community Recycling Centre (CRC) has now reached full capacity and will be unable to accept certain problem waste items until servicing resumes. General waste disposal and other services at Cessnock Waste Management Centre (CWMC) remain unaffected.
Items NOT currently accepted at Cessnock CRC include:
- Paints (water & oil-based)
- Gas cylinders
- Fire extinguishers
- Motor oil and other oils
Items still accepted include:
- eWaste (computers, TV's, accessories)
- Household, rechargeable and lead-acid batteries
- Printer cartridges
- Mobile phones
- Smoke detectors
- Fluorescent light globes and tubes
Please do not place problem waste such as paint, gas cylinders, batteries, fire extinguishers and motor oils in general waste bins, as these items can pose serious risks to staff and waste collection services.
The following items are accepted in household quantities:
- paint, oil and water-based (in liquid form only)
- gas cylinders

- electronic waste
