Community Recycling Centre

The Community Recycling Centre, which is located inside Cessnock Waste Management Centre, provides the community with a safe way to dispose of household problem waste, free of charge. Only household quantities of these materials will be accepted. As a guide, the maximum amount is 20 litres or 20 kilograms per material. If you have this quantity, it is recommended that you contact the centre before arriving to ensure there is adequate storage space available.

The following items are accepted in household quantities:

  • paint, oil and water-based (in liquid form only)
  • gas cylinders
  • fire extinguishers
  • electronic waste
  • fluorescent light globes and tubes
  • car batteries
  • household batteries
  • motor oils (max. 20 litres)
  • other oils
  • smoke detectors

Waste requiring specialist recycling at our Community Recycling Stations 

The following items require specialist recycling services to recover the metals and chemicals they contain:

  • Fluorescent tubes and household light bulbs
  • Household batteries
  • Mobile phones
  • Ink cartridges

You can also drop them at one of our FREE Community Recycling Stations at the following locations during regular opening hours:

  • Council’s Administration Building: 62-78 Vincent St, Cessnock 2325 (please hand to staff at the counter)
  • Kurri Kurri Library: Cnr Lang & Allworth Streets, Kurri Kurri 2327
