With the festive season just around the corner, Cessnock City Council invites local businesses and shoppers to embrace the Christmas spirit with two exciting competitions.

Local businesses across the Cessnock LGA are encouraged to transform their shopfronts with festive decorations and eye-catching displays.

Cessnock City Mayor Daniel Watton will judge the displays and award first, second, and third places with a respective $500, $300, and $200 gift card and trophy.

Local shoppers are invited to join the festive fun by visiting the participating businesses with Christmas displays, snapping a selfie or festive photo, and sharing it on social media with the hashtag #SupportLocalCessnock.

The top three participants who promote their favourite Christmas display on social media will receive a $200, $100, and $50 gift card respectively.

Cessnock City Mayor Daniel Watton said he is looking forward to the community coming alive with the spirit of the season.

"The Christmas Business Display Competition offers a wonderful opportunity to showcase your holiday spirit and win great prizes, while brightening up our streets for the season," said Clr Watton.

"Whether you're a business owner or a local shopper, this is a wonderful way to share the Christmas spirit, support each other and win some great prizes."

Businesses wishing to participate must register by emailing their business name and address to economic.development@cessnock.nsw.gov.au.

The competitions will close at 5pm on Friday, 13 December 2024, and winners will be announced via the Advance Greater Cessnock social media channels.
