Historian to share tales of Greta Migrant Camp

Published on 11 March 2025

Hunter author and historian Alek Schulha will discuss his unreleased forthcoming book focussing on the Greta Migrant Camp - 'Beneath The Shadows of Mount Molly Morgan Volume 2' - at Cessnock Library between 5.30pm and 6.45pm on 20 March 2025.

The free special event is being held to mark Harmony Week, which is a significant opportunity to celebrate multiculturalism, inclusiveness, respect and sense of belonging for all.

Schulha's talk will offer a unique lens through which to explore our nation’s heritage by sharing the compelling stories of those who have shaped it.

His new book delves deeper into the lives of tens of thousands of migrants who arrived in Greta from Europe after World War II. It explores their experiences as they began their Australian journeys in the Greta Migrant Camp, seeking new opportunities and a fresh start in a foreign land.

Schulha's work transcends traditional historical accounts by weaving in poignant personal stories of early migrants, highlighting their challenges and triumphs. His research offers valuable insights into the profound impact of migration on Australia's history

"We are thrilled to welcome Alek Schulha to Cessnock Library to share the important stories within ‘Beneath the Shadows of Mount Molly Morgan Volume 2’," said Rose-marie Walters, Library Services Co-ordinator.

"This event perfectly aligns with the spirit of Harmony Week, providing a platform to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of migrants to our community and the rich tapestry of Australian culture."
