Wollombi Road T-Intersection High Pedestrian Activity Area
- Project typePavement rehabilitation
- Project value$1.25 million
- Project scheduleJune 2025 - January 2026
Background
Wollombi Town Centre is a Heritage Conservation Area with Heritage listed properties. The village is used by visitors and locals who roam through the informal rural setting of the town.
Safety is always a concern with the informal crossing of the areas around the intersection and improvements to pedestrian safety, drainage, parking and visual amenity is a long time coming.
The project’s design incorporates feedback from the community, ensuring that it reflects the needs and priorities of Wollombi’s residents and business operators. Additionally, consideration has been given to future-proofing the infrastructure, ensuring the village can continue to thrive while maintaining its unique charm.
This project forms part of the NSW Government’s Towards Zero Safer Roads Program, which is a key aspect of the 2026 Road Safety Action Plan, and is a road safety infrastructure upgrade and speed management program aimed at delivering sustainable and long-term reductions in road trauma across the NSW road network by addressing high risk location.
Scope of Works
The Wollombi High Pedestrian Activity Area will include:
- A new shared zone around the intersection with reduced traffic speeds,
- Widened and extended footpaths finished in decomposed granite,
- Regraded parking,
- Improved drainage
- Pavement upgrades and resurfacing
- Additional seating to enhance village amenity,
- Informal crossings to provide better village connectivity and visibility for both pedestrians and road users, and
- New threshold treatments at the three approaches to the intersection that will signal the High Pedestrian Activity Area and help calm traffic
