Background

This project aims to improve active transport infrastructure by enhancing connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists between key residential and commercial areas. It focuses on promoting safety and accessibility by providing a designated pathway that reduces pedestrian-vehicle-conflict.

Additionally, the project supports community mobility by facilitating easier access for residents traveling between Wyndham Ridge Estate and Greta CBD. It encourages sustainable transport options, reducing car dependency and promoting walking and cycling. The project also aligns with local planning and development objectives, enhancing public infrastructure with more pedestrian-friendly routes.


Scope of works

The scope of works includes the investigation, design and construction of 243m long, 2.5m wide concrete shared pathway along West Street, Greta. The Pathway will connect Branxton Street to High Street, improving active transport connectivity between the Wyndham Ridge Estate and the Greta CBD. The works involve excavation of the existing earth drain.

Additionally, pedestrian safety improvements will be implemented on Branxton Street, including, kerb return construction, and integration of pram ramps and extended shared paths. The project will also include kerb return and pram ramp installation on both sides of Lewis Street, extending the shared path westward.

Traffic Management

A traffic management plan will be implemented at the commencement of the construction phase.


Funding

$440,000.00 including Cessnock Council’s City Wide Infrastructure Plan 2020 and West and Wyndham Streets Greta (Local Infrastructure) Planning Agreement.
