Orange Street in Abermain serves as a key link to the Hunter Expressway via Frame Drive and Gingers Lane. Over time, the continuous increase in traffic led to the deterioration of the road surface, resulting in the need for urgent rehabilitation. As part of the 2023-24 Regional Road Renewal Program (RRR), the road underwent a comprehensive upgrade to improve both road quality and drainage.
The project involved widening and upgrading the existing road, which was previously a two-way sealed road with unformed shoulders and earth drains on either side. The rehabilitation also included kerb and gutter work along the western side between Cessnock Road and Melbourne Street. The project also focused on upgrading the drainage system to handle stormwater more effectively and installing new safety features, such as guardrails.
