Background
Campbell Street, Ellalong is a street that connects Helena Street and Sandy Creek Road via South Street. The street provides access to properties along Campbell Street, however may be subject to additional traffic from South Street. Over time, despite maintenance, the section of Campbell Street between Helena Street and Hecla Street has deteriorated considerably - triggering priority rehabilitation of the road. Council has received complaints from the local community about the road safety issues and improvement of road. The work was therefore included in Cessnock City Council Operational Plan 2024-25 under Local Road Renewal Program (RRL).
The existing road is a sealed, generally with unformed/unsealed shoulders and earth drains on each side. Council proposes to widen the existing road and improve the drainage system along the road.
Scope of Work
The project encompasses construction of Campbell Street, Ellalong, approximately 790 metres from Helena Street including:
- Widening of existing road and shoulders
- Pavement rehabilitation (stabilisation & reseal)
- Minor drainage works
Project update
The Road rehabilitation works at Campbell Street, Ellalong have now been successfully completed.
We thank the local community and residents for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the duration of the construction works.
Completed works include:
- Widening of existing road and shoulders
- Pavement rehabilitation (stabilisation & reseal)
- Minor drainage works

Location
Campbell Street, Ellalong is in North - South direction, connecting Helena Street and South Street. The section of Campbell Street currently upgraded is approx. 520m from Helena St to Hecla Street and has been further been extended by 270m as shown on location maps below:


Traffic Management
Traffic guidance schemes, including detours around the work site, were implemented for the duration of the project to assist with management of local traffic.
