Planned upgrades at Kurri Kurri Library have been brought forward to this month, after a recent severe storm caused water damage to the roof of the popular facility.

The change of schedule means Kurri Kurri Library has been temporarily closed while a roof leak is repaired and the upgrades – initially planned for 2026 – take place. Works will include the installation of an accessible toilet, a new meeting room, and refurbishment of existing amenities.

A pop-up service desk will be established at Kurri Kurri Community Centre (next door to the library) from Monday 8 December. It will provide a point of contact for library services, a pick-up point for reserved items, and access to limited popular quick-loan materials. It will be open during the community centre’s normal operating hours, from Monday to Friday.

All regular upcoming school holiday activities will continue as planned, but have been relocated to venues in the Kurri Kurri area – updated information will be published on the library’s website and social media channels.

Acting Library Services Co-ordinator Andrew Powell thanked the community for its patience during this period of works.

"While we acknowledge the inconvenience caused by this sudden closure, especially heading into the busy school holidays, the new library upgrades will provide improved opportunities for all people to engage and access Kurri Kurri Library," said Mr Powell.

Works are expected to be completed by mid-2026.
