Published on 04 October 2024
Cessnock City Library will host three free community events for Get Online Week, designed to empower residents with essential digital skills and resources.
With nearly one in four Australians facing challenges in accessing digital resources, Get Online Week is a vital national initiative aimed at reducing digital exclusion. This year’s events will focus on equipping individuals with the skills needed to thrive in our increasingly digital landscape.
Led by Harry Kavadas of Seniors Tech and Tea, these friendly and informative sessions will cover vital topics including online safety, protecting personal information, and enhancing digital skills from the comfort of home.
Event details:
- Tuesday 15 October from 10am to 12pm at Kurri Kurri Library
- Wednesday 16 October from 10am to 12pm at Cessnock Library
- Thursday 17 October from 10am to 12pm at Green Ridge Retirement Village (Huntlee)
Organised by Good Things Foundation with the support of the Australian Government, Get Online Week reached over 23,000 Australians in 2023 through more than 1,300 events, with an impressive 92% of participants reporting they learned something new.
Library Services Coordinator Rose-marie Walters expressed her enthusiasm about the upcoming events and their positive impact.
"We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to safely engage in our digital world and no one should be left behind," said Ms Walters.
"Get Online Week is all about learning new skills, connecting with the local community, and we encourage residents to join us in working together to help bridge the digital divide."
